POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN STATISTICAL PHYSICS OF GLASS AND JAMMING TRANSITIONS

Applications are invited to fill one postdoctoral fellowship in statistical physics of the glass and jamming transitions at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of CEA Saclay for the coming academic year, starting in the Fall 2009. This fellowship is for one year and with a net monthly salary of 2200-2600 Euros, depending on experience. We expect to receive funding to renew the postdoc position for a second year.

The postdoc position is funded by the French National Agency for research (ANR) within a project called "Dynamical heterogeneities in glasses, colloids and granular media".
The postdoc is expected to work on the theory of glass and jamming transitions. The Institute's permanent faculty with overlapping interests include Alain Billoire, Giulio Biroli and Alexandre Lefèvre. Collaborations are expected with other theoreticians belonging to the same ANR project and based in the Paris Area: Jean-Philippe Bouchaud, Gilles Tarjus and Cristina Toninelli. Interactions with the experimental teams belonging to the same ANR project and located in the closeby laboratory (SPEC) will be encouraged. Experiments on jamming of granular media are performed by the group of Olivier Dauchot and experiments on dielectric susceptibility of supercooled liquids are performed by the group of Denis L'Hote and François Ladieu.

Applications including a CV, a list of publications, and a description of past research and future research interests, should be sent to Giulio Biroli by email at the address giulio.biroli@cea.fr
Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address. The deadline for the application is Dec. 31, 2008.
