A QCD axion from Randall-Sundrum-like compactifications with two throats

The axion provides a solution to the strong CP problem, but it comes at the expense of introducing a new scale, $f_{PQ}$, which is constrained experimentally to lie between $10^9$ GeV and $10^{12}$ GeV. Randall-Sundrum models allow to generate large hierarchies in mass scales. In this talk, I will show how geometries with several throats with a range of warp factors (which are not unnatural in string compactifications) can realize the hierarchy of scales $M_{Pl}$ / $f_{PQ}$ / $M_W$. Then I will discuss the phenomenology of axions in a``large'' throat, and compare it to a model with a large flat extra dimension by Dienes, Dudas and Gherghetta.
